It has operations in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. Its 2 major businesses include the mining and processing of salt for deicing, water care, animal nutrition and food, and sulfate of potash (a specialty fertilizer). This position will report to the Site Manager and Manage Maintenance activities at the salt and fertilizer mining and processing plants in Ogden, Utah. Summary: This position is responsible for the safe operations, effective planning, organizing, coordinating and monitoring of maintenance activities supporting three production plants and a raw materials operation. Product lines include Sulfate of Potash, Magnesium Chloride, and Salt. General responsibilities embody effective safety and environmental stewardship, equipment reliability programs, preventative maintenance programs, maintenance scheduling, employee development and skill enhancement plans and implementing continuous improvement activities into the maintenance department. The maintenance department is comprised of electrical, instrumentation, mobile equipment, mechanical technicians, and related supervisors and planners. This position works collaboratively with plant leadership, engineering and production personnel to meet the long/short term company goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: •Develops and enforces effective environmental, health, and safety processes in compliance with the law, company policy and objectives. •Leads implementation of the Reliable Asset Management program (RAM). Transform from a “break / fix” maintenance culture to a planned, proactive, precision, predictive, and preventative maintenance culture. •Formulates and/or reviews and approves department’s short term/long term plans. Ensures that maintenance strategies are designed and coordinated to achieve company objectives including the maximum life cycle use of site assets while containing related costs. •Controls and/or coordinates the allocation of departmental personnel, equipment and other resources to be the most economical choice and to meet objectives. •Analyzes costs and benefits of equipment maintenance, capital growth and improvements, and production unit maintenance shutdowns. Recommends strategies that take advantage of production interruptions to minimize the impact on overall company production objectives. •Ensures departmental operating instructions and procedures are maintained. •Ensures departmental compliance with all company standards, practices, and procedures. •Prepares, maintains, and controls departmental expense and maintenance-of-business (MOB) capital budgets to meet company objectives. •Measures and evaluates department efficiencies, costs, and productivity. Provides appropriate recommendations to direct reports and/or management as required. •Assesses employee performance, development, training, and succession management needs in assigned area of responsibility. Establishes and utilizes the necessary protocols to meet goals. •Encourages and supports positive company interdepartmental relationships. •Meet and help establish targets on planned vs. unplanned work, mean time between failure on major equipment, work order backlog, preventive and predictive maintenance schedule completion. •Work to continuously improve the operation by identifying root causes to downtime and implementing action plans to reduce occurrences. •Continuously strive toward OEE improvements for all areas of responsibility. •Enforce and train personnel on production, quality and safety standards. •Help train and implement autonomous maintenance activities with production personnel. Deliverables: •Department meets or exceeds environmental, health, safety and security (EHS&S) objectives. •Completion of scheduled work orders meets annual target. •Meets established targets on planned vs. unplanned work, mean time between failures on major equipment, work order backlog, preventive and predictive maintenance schedule completion. •Overtime/ rework meet annual targets through effective employee development and performance management. •Budget results meet company objectives. Education and Experience: •Bachelors Degree, preferably in an engineering discipline. •Five plus years of plant maintenance leadership, preferably in a heavy industrial setting. •Effective leadership skills and problem solving techniques is a must. •Experience leading a maintenance transformation from a “break / fix” culture to a reliability-based maintenance culture is highly desirable. •Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) preferred. •Experience in Lean manufacturing, including Total Productive Maintenance, and/or Six Sigma preferred. Computer Skills: Computer proficiency with AutoCAD (management level) Microsoft Office, MS Project and CMMS systems. Familiarity with predictive maintenance technical tools.
